We all know too well, maintaining a healthy diet can prove difficult. Once the weekend rolls around, the temptation for a takeaway can be overwhelming. Although variety is essential, we have all earned a treat now and again! At Revive Nutrition, we believe healthy eating should be enjoyable. Therefore, we suggest, ditch the Friday night takeaway menu, and instead swap it for something healthier. We have designed a menu so you can indulge on all your classic favourites, without all the added guilt!

From Chinese and Indian takeaway classics to high street favourites, we have designed a menu to please every palette, of course, all with a healthy twist. They span a range of cultures and cuisines, so you will never be bored!

Why you ask? After all, takeaways are often cheap, convenient, and satisfying but, unfortunately, they are rarely healthy.  What are the real health benefits of swapping a traditional takeaway for fresh, nutritious alternative? Well, we will start with the nation’s favourite, the Chinese takeaway. A study has found, on average, a Chinese takeaway meal can contain the equivalent of a wine glass full of lard. Gorging on a dinner including prawn crackers, crispy duck, chicken balls and spring rolls racks up 132.5 grams of fat and 2,823 calories. The average daily calorie intake for women is 2,000 a day and for men is 2,500. Meaning you have consumed your full daily calorific intake, in just one sitting! With numbers like that, it can be daunting. Although at Revive, we can offer you a healthy alternative, after all, oriental cuisine is delicious! Take for instance our Chicken Curry & Coconut Rice, tender pieces of chicken breast served with coconut rice and a Japanese style curry sauce, all with only 377 calories! Meaning you can all the flavour of your favourite takeaway, without any of the added unhealthy side effects.

Let’s take a look at another of the nation’s favourite eateries. The ever-popular, cheeky Nando’s. You might assume, Nando’s being essentially grilled chicken, it would be outright healthy. You would be wrong. Yes, of course, grilled chicken is healthier but by the time you’ve got the added extra’s, the peri-peri fries, slaw, burger bun and finally the ‘perinaise’. The reality is your meal is full of fat and at a much higher calorific intake. At Revive Nutrition, we too offer the Portuguese classic, Peri-peri chicken, although we pair ours with herby new potatoes and steamed green beans dressed in our homemade sesame oil. With our healthy pairings the peri-peri alternative only scores in at 292 calories per serving and 8 grams of fat.

Finally, one of the worst culprits, the Indian takeaway. Traditional Indian food is incredibly healthy, with lots of vegetables and natural ingredients. Although, Indian takeaways as we know them on the other hand are not. Rich, creamy, oil-rich sauces and additional deep-fried treats such as samosas and onion bhajis, contribute to a large amount of fat in your meal. Alternatives are dishes with tomato-based sauces, such as jalfrezi and madras, or tandoori-cooked meat, plain rice, or chapatti. Also choose plenty of vegetables, including lentil side dishes (known as dhal or dal). Another option is our Revive Nutrition alternatives, we offer an Indian classic, Chicken Biriyani as well as Indian vegetarian options such as a Mung Bean Dahl. The Chicken Biriyani contains tender pieces of chicken breast with basmati rice Biriyani and Indian spices with only 346 calories. Or, on the other hand, take the Mung Bean Dahl, one of our lightest dishes. It contains only, 265 calories and only 2g of fat!

At Revive, our aim is to make healthy eating enjoyable! We offer multiple healthy alternatives to the nation’s favourite treats, to keep you on track and enjoying your healthy eating journey. To learn more about our menu, view the full menu on our website here.
